Webster 1828 Dictionary: Fear: A painful emotion or passion excited by an expectation of evil; or the apprehension of impending danger. Fear is an uneasiness of mind, upon the thought of the future evil likely to befall us. Anxiety; Verb: worry: to be in apprehension of evil; to be afraid; to feel anxiety on account of some expected evil. Synonyms: anxiety, fearfulness, dread, panic, terror, Anxiety: Concern respecting some event,(in the future or uncertain), which disturbs the mind, and keeps it in a state of painful uneasiness. It usually springs from fear or serious apprehension of evil, and involves a suspense respecting an event of mind, to know how to shape our conduct. Medical language: uneasiness; unceasing restlessness in sickness.
What is Fear? Fear is an evil spirit, an antichrist spirit because 'it' tells you that you are not accepted and not loved by God. Any voice or even your own thought process that contradicts the Word of God is antichrist. What does the Bible say? The Bible says, you are loved! This is why reading the Bible and knowing what God says about you and who you are in Christ is so important. He loves you! For God so loved that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to take our place on the cross (John 3:16 paraphrased). God Loves You and there is nothing that you can do about that. He loves you! He loves you! He loves you! He loves you! He loves you!
Do you believe that love? The knowledge and understanding of God and who He is can only come by reading and meditating on the Word of God. Fear is a ruling force in this world. But we are not of this world Praise God! The enemy is the author of confusion and fear. 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has NOT given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Can you see that God is not the author of fear? The old saying 'a little bit of fear is healthy for you' is NOT in the Bible. Fear and health do not belong in the same sentence! Maybe they were thinking you need to teach your children to have a 'healthy fear' of crossing the street. Again, fear and health do not belong together. There is a way to teach children or adults for that matter about danger without teaching them fear. Teach them obedience, teach them that cars/trucks belong on the street. People belong on the sidewalk. Look both ways before crossing the street as the cars/trucks are bigger than us and they might not see us etc. Then if they start to run after the ball that went in the street, they will stop at your voice(obedience) or stop and remember what you taught them before going into the street. While you are at it, teach them about God who loves them, and how to listen for His still small voice. How to seek Him with their whole hearts. Ok back to our talk on Fear Not!
Websters 1828 Dictionary: Faith: to trust, to believe; to obey; a firm cordial belief in the veracity of God, in all the declarations of His word; or a full and affectionate confidence in the certainty of those things which God has declared and because He has declared them. An affectionate practical confidence in the testimony of God.
What is Faith? "Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1. Hope must be stronger than your fears. Why? Because faith ALWAYS defeats fear. 1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." We do not have to be perfect, we just need to know the perfect one! God, who is Love! More of God, more love! Fear has to flee!
Romans 10:17, "So then Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." Again, spending time reading God's Word and knowing what God says about you is so important. Ignorance is not bliss and can be very costly.
Faith represents hope for your future whereas fear represents destruction of your hope for the future. So you see you are either having faith in God or faith in fear. You are believing the fear over what God says. Selah. Another way to say it is Faith equals life: fear equals death. You cannot be in faith and fear at the same time. It is one or the other. Just like Faith creates your future, fear will try to re-create your future for evil. As you know, the enemy is not a creator, he is a liar and the father of lies. He can only twist what our Father in heaven has created. This is why you need to take your thoughts captive and cast down those fear thoughts.
Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." There it is again, seeking Him, spending time with Him, reading and meditating on His word. You see we are all given a measure of faith. Romans 12:1-3 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world (which operates in fear), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." Can you see it's not that you do not have enough faith? Jesus said that we only need faith the size of a mustard seed. Luke 17:6 " So the Lord said,' If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea, and it will obey you." And again in Matthew 17:20, (Jesus was explaining to the disciples why they could not cast out the demon of the mute/deaf boy) "So Jesus said to them, 'Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
You will either choose Faith or Fear in your day to day living. What you meditate on or think about every day, that which occupies your mind reveals your choice. If you are meditating or thinking on God's word, focusing on worshiping Him, or any good thing, then you will be at peace. If you meditate or think about everything that could go wrong today or tomorrow, wringing your hands, you are projecting into your future. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry (take no thought) about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." And before that He said in Matthew 6:25 " Therefore, I say to you, do not worry (take no thought) about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" I can hear all the planners and schedulers freaking out right now! It doesn't mean we just live by the 'seat of our pants' so to speak. But it does mean we trust in our God to lead and guide us staying in peace as we live out our daily lives. People who have to control everything are really living in fear and not trusting God to help them. We were not created to do everything on our own. We were created to seek Him, hear from Him and let Him lead and guide us. It really is that simple.
You will either choose to believe the Word or not believe the Word. If you choose not to believe the Word then you have a spirit of unbelief. If you cannot believe it, you may have an antichrist spirit. Either way, you just need to repent of unbelief and/or cooperating with an antichrist spirit (knowingly or unknowingly) and choose to believe God! Let's do that right now. Just repeat after me if you will: "Father, I recognize I have unbelief in my life, and I have been cooperating with an antichrist spirit. Father I repent for unbelief. I repent for cooperating with an antichrist spirit. I renounce it now and tell it to Go in Jesus name! I will not listen to you unbelief, I will not listen to you antichrist spirit any longer in Jesus name Amen! Thank you Father for restoring me. Thank you for your love. I receive your love right now Father. Amen!
You may have heard me say that stress is the modern day term for fear. You might hear people say, "I am so stressed out!" You rarely hear them say, "I am so afraid right now!" When you ask what they are stressed out about, they will say all the things they have to get done and the timeline to get it done etc. So what is that? Fear. Fear of failure, fear of man, fear of job loss, fear of never being good enough. The list goes on and on. If you were raised in fear, you might not be able to distinguish fear as easily because it is 'normal or 'familiar' to you. Here is an easy way to remember the difference between fear and faith: Fear drives…Faith leads. If you are feeling 'driven' to do something, then you need to ask God if you are in fear. Perfectionism is fear based; if you can do it (whatever 'it' is just right, then you will be loved, fulfilled, make it…fill in the blank.) If you were raised with conditional love, then you might feel the need to be perfect so that you can be loved. If you were raised in an unloving/abusive home then you might need to control everything to protect yourself and/or your family. Can you see this? There is no shame, guilt or condemnation here. These are all lies from the pit of hell that you are not loved, that you need to perform in order to be loved etc. Can you now see how the spirit of fear is evil?
This again is where reading the Word comes in to place. Knowing your Father in heaven who loves you, has a plan for your life and how He will help you accomplish that plan, in peace. John 14:27: " Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
We must renew our minds to Gods ways, not our ways. God intends for you to face every circumstance, every person or problem in your life in faith and trust. When you believe God and trust Him, He will set things in motion to lead you out of captivity. Fear is captivity. Fear is torment. But Jesus came to set the captives free!
Luke 4:18: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind. To set at liberty those who are oppressed." That is Good News!
2 Corinthians 3:17: "Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom."
Now if you are still not convinced that fear is evil, let's talk about the effects of fear on our bodies.
Stress and Fear directly affects the hypothalamus gland. This is the mind-body connection you hear about in the medical/psychology fields. Fear, stress/anxiety produce the fight/flight response. Our bodies were created to respond to emergencies via fight/flight but not for long-term fear/stress. The hypothalamus in the brain helps elevate threats and the hippocampus helps evaluate threats. So if you heard a frightening noise in a place that you deem as safe, it is less likely to scare you. Your amygdala is your brains rapid response system. It sends your body into high alert if triggered. So if you experienced trauma, especially as a young child, your amygdala actually increases in size and tends to keep you in a heightened state of high alert, 'always ready for danger'. Medical science has evaluated those with PTSD and found that their amygdala is enlarged versus people that did not have PTSD. Not all people in war develop PTSD. What they have discovered is that the chronic heightened alert stage as a younger child sets them up for PTSD in the future regardless if it is war, bad weather or accidents etc. Your prefrontal cortex is supposed to rein in your amygdala, making the split decision of 'is this threat real or not'. So you want your prefrontal cortex to be in charge and not your amygdala. Chronic or long term fears increases the size of the amygdala and it then takes over your pre frontal cortex. How do you keep the delicate balance of the brain so your body stays in homeostasis or 'peace'? You take every thought captive. Every thought that you have there is a reaction that triggers a chemical reaction that is then released in your body. When we are in fear, our body is out of balance or 'peace'. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of taking control of your thoughts. If my mind is 'out of balance', there is no peace and that translates to the rest of my body. Perfect peace is when our mind is focused on our Father who loves us. Isaiah 26:3 " You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."
Here is just a quick list of how our body responds to fear, stress and anxiety. Insomnia, (restful sleep is when God designed our bodies to heal themselves on a daily basis), cardiovascular system: high blood pressure, heart rhythm issues, strokes; muscles tightness & spasms, connective tissue disorders, lung issues,(tightening airways), decreased immune system function; opening ourselves up to all kinds of issues including chronic viruses & our bodies ability to detect all foreign invaders in our body (including cancer), Pain and chronic pain issues, Gastrointestinal system issues, IBS, Spastic colon, diarrhea, overeating and under-eating (fear of man & rejection) fatigue, Inflammation (which leads to multiple diseases) & MCS just to name a few. You see every bodily system is affected.
So what's the Good News? Jesus! He came and set us free as I said earlier, but we have to seek Him, find out the truth, repent for fear and receive forgiveness. Then continue walking with Him daily. If you have repented of agreeing with fear, then start speaking to your body and lining it up with the will of God, which is His Word. It really is that simple.
Let's do that now if you choose to. Just repeat after me; Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus, I recognize and take responsibility in my life and in my generations for Fear. I repent for agreeing with fear, for being addicted to fear and for allowing fear to control me. I ask for forgiveness and I receive my forgiveness now in Jesus name. Thank you Father for never leaving me or forsaking me. You are a good, good, Father. Amen!
Now, you are on your road to freedom! Fear Not!
