To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
So according to this verse, knowing the love (which passes knowledge) of Christ (the messiah, or anointed one) is what enables us to be filled with all the fullness of God. Difficult to imagine, not hard to obtain.
What is the fullness of God? Completeness, abundance of Love.
Where does Love originate? God. But He said specifically the Love of Christ. Now this gets tricky. We know that acceptance and trust in Jesus and His sacrifice is what opens us to eternal life and all of salvation. Knowing then the Love Jesus expressed for us on the cross and accepting what He did for us personally, is the passageway that God uses to fill us with His fullness. The transaction depends then on Love's acceptance by us, believing by us and receiving revelation of His Love towards us which fills us with the fullness of God.
Love tank feeling low? We need to be filled again. It is not like the husband who said I love you at the wedding ceremony and then didn't tell her again for 50 years. No, Love has to be in 2 places for there to be unity.
Things which get in the way of staying full
Remember the really old Brylcreem ad ? It was an advertising slogan in the 50's for their hair grooming product, which said, "Brylcreem, a little dab will do ya" How many of you heard someone say that?
Sometimes slogans resonated so much with the public, they became something people believed and applied to other things. I thought it was rather annoying if you want to know the truth.
So my question is (and this may require thinking on your part), "which societal slogans have made their way into your brain? You know things like,"life is what you make it", "betcha can't eat just one", "have it your way", "when it rains it pours". Sounds like these slogans have hidden meanings? If they do we may have subscribed to a belief we don't want that blocks our faith and love walk with God.
Most importantly, which ones are a part of your belief system?
Consider this: I'd walk a mile for a Camel cigarette … hidden meaning: "I'm addicted and can't do w/o one" "Betcha can't eat just one" Lays potato chips = "I have no self control" or "you made your bed now sleep in it!"= "you can never be forgiven!" and are stuck with the consequences of your sin! Subtle but effective…that's the enemy. There are also spirits involved with things like addictions, no self control, condemning ones' self and walking in unforgiveness.
Somebody say, "devil you are a liar!" These subtle "cute" sayings might need repentance, and the Word meditated on to remove them from your thinking.
Why not think in accord with the scriptures instead? For instance, say to yourself, I have the mind of a genius, after all we do have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor 2:16) How about, "I have the body of an athlete". Where is that in scripture? Is 40:31 "you shall run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint." You would rather have a bible picture to think on, right? Did you ever notice that you think in pictures?
The Hidden Word
Psalm 119:11 says, "Your Word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You." Ahh a connection between the temptation and the remedy.
Why does the Bible say hide scripture in your heart? Does it have to do with Jesus temptation in the wilderness? Notice Jesus did not have to think about the temptation or the consequences. The Word took on the challenge for Him instantly.
Luke 4:4 The devil said, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread," 4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God. Jesus then chose to live by the Word of God instead of His own wits.
Same with us! What does the Word of God do when we obey what it says? Overcomes. The Word overcomes through us and for us. Remember Debra's talk on burdens? Well if we are yoked up to God's Word all we will have to do is believe and speak it to the problem or circumstances to see them removed.
Mark 11:22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Ya but I've been saying and obeying the Word and circumstances haven't changed! Ok, so are you going to argue with Kenneth Hagin? He's the one who has that verse written in granite above the door to his tomb! He certainly lived by those words. If he can we can.
We are dealing with Jesus' Words and faith. So if there is a disconnect maybe it has to do with us? Think about it if you would for a moment and see if you have ever received anything through faith in God? Ok, then it is possible to receive again.
Unbelief - I started talking about slogan's this morning as a possible block to receiving from God and I believe a lot of these may foster unbelief. Other blockages might include a doctors negative words, fears, our own experiences, listening to unbelieving sermons, others negative experiences, believing in the worlds' way.
Enter His rest
Biblical usage of the word rest= a putting to rest, calming of the winds, a resting place. This is after the fight of faith has been won that we enter into the rest which God intended. He didn't say there would be no fight, no blocks to overcome, no resistance to your endeavor! But listen to what He said:
Hebrews 4:2 AMPC For indeed we have had the glad tidings [Gospel of God] proclaimed to us just as truly as they [the Israelites of old did when the good news of deliverance from bondage came to them]; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith (with the leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) by those who heard it!
The message they heard was not mixed with faith or leaning on God!
v6 Seeing then that the promise remains over [from past times] for some to enter that rest, and that those who formerly were given the good news about it and the opportunity, failed to appropriate it and did not enter because of disobedience
v11 Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell.
Again, Jesus said, " and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says."
Pure unbelief or disobedience will land us in the failed column every time! I think it's time to start winning !
Wells of Salvation
Let the Word convince you. Every miracle people in the Bible experienced began by someone believing and trusting in a Word from God. Sure you can be daunted by circumstances, but you have overcoming power of God inside of you! Listen to what Isaiah says.
Isaiah 12:2-4
2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ ”
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.
KJV Translates salvation this way: salvation (from God) help, deliverance, health, save, saving, welfare. Usage also includes prosperity, and victory
Is the well this speaks of physical or spiritual? Listen to what Jesus says:
John 4:7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”(Holy Spirit) inferred by Jesus
11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water (Holy Spirit) ? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water (Holy Spirit) that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water (Holy Spirit) that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water (Holy Spirit) springing up into everlasting life.”
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, (Holy Spirit) that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.
This is the water from the wells of salvation from Isaiah 12. Jesus came to fill us with His Spirit. But we had to be able to contain these waters through the new birth. Notice that wells are the containers that God supplied to man on the inside! Or simply put the ability man has to hold inside the precious Holy Spirit after the new birth.
Titus 3:5 - He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we have done, but because of His own compassion and mercy, by the cleansing of the new birth (spiritual transformation, regeneration) and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
Were we not filled at the new birth with the Holy Spirit as well as every spiritual blessing in Heavenly places?
Some of the things the Holy Spirit does and supplies are Joy, guidance, anointing, God's presence, comfort, direction, strength, counsel, teaching, resurrection, power, boldness, direction, revelation, prayer, advocates, testifies of Jesus, confirms His Word with signs following and more!
Here is how you begin to draw out the things of the Spirit or life giving water Jesus spoke to the woman of. Believing that everything good is already in you and praying in other tongues.
Jude 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith praying in the Holy Spirit.
St. Paul says he prays in tongues more than you all! How desperate are you? Can you pray this way indefinitely? Yes! Is it hearing from God you need? Is it healing, miracles, comfort, peace? Pray in your perfect language God has given you! The devil can't figure out what is being said! It's encrypted! Pray God's perfect will. Experience this yourself!
The woman in Samaria wanted what Jesus had so that she wouldn't thirst any more.
Every one of you has received the gift of God and have an endless fountain of water springing up in you to eternal life!
This Holy Spirit is not far off in another galaxy. We don't have to pray for weeks until an angel is done fighting with the devil to receive answers from God. No, today is the day of your salvation!
Yes I realize sometimes we still feel thirsty. Take a drink! And take another until you are satisfied! The Holy Spirit .
John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
The bible says Jesus and the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, and that means they were full! You are His modern day disciples, do you want to be filled like they were? Admit to God your thirst and ask Him to fill you full, and He will!
To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (who is Love).
Ask the Lord to reveal more about His Love to you and fill you to the place of overflowing! He is ready to revive you and quench your thirst meeting your deepest need. Do it now!
