Love -verb transitive. 1. In a general sense to be pleased with; to regard with affection, on account of some qualities which excite pleasing sensations or desire of gratification. We love a friend, on account of some qualities which give us pleasure in his society. We love a man who has done us a favor; in which case, gratitude enters into the composition of our affection. We love our parents and our children, on account of their connection with us, and on account of many qualities which please us. We love to retire to a cool shade in summer. We love a warm room in winter. The Christian loves his Bible. In short, we love whatever gives us pleasure and delight, whether animal or intellectual; and if our hearts are right, we love God above all things, as the sum of all excellence and all the attributes which can communicate happiness to intelligent beings. In other words, the Christian loves God in his attributes, benevolence towards the interest of his kingdom, and gratitude for favors received. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind -Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.                                                                 LOVE, noun 1. An affection of the mind excited by beauty and worth of any kind, or by the qualities of an object which communicate pleasure, sensual or intellectual. It is opposed to hatred. Love between the sexes, is a compound affection, consisting of esteem, benevolence, and animal desire. Love is excited by pleasing qualities of any kind, as by kindness, benevolence, charity, and by the qualities which render social intercourse agreeable. In the latter case, love is ardent friendship, or a strong attachment springing from good will and esteem, and the pleasure derived from the company, civilities and kindness of others. Webster's 1828 Dictionary

-Love is seen in the blissful eyes of the mother of a newborn child, and felt through her gentle swaddling arms. Love is experienced in the heart of a young lad through a pleased father’s affirmation, Love is noted on the battlefield between soldiers fighting a common enemy for a common cause.                        Man and wife in marital dreamlike engagement love each other as the two become one. A fireman runs out of a burning building with a distressed person over their shoulder, robbing death of another victim and earns the admiration of many.                                                                                                              Numerous are the expressions of Love which are evoked through human interaction, yet there exists many times more ways in which the Father loves and shows His love through people. I don’t think we can count the number of them. Surely you might say, there is a limit. 1Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Has God stirred your life with His tangible Love? Maybe you felt His “Love’s” presence at a certain time and place unique to you.

Most of us can relate a love event which impressed us in our past and tell it with great emotion or at least fond memory. Who can remember a Love event you would like to share that touched your life ?  Anyone?-----(personal testimonies)

— You know that event left a mark on you don’t you? How can I tell? Because God never withdraws his Love and we can still be moved by the event even though it was a long time ago.

I would like to assert that not only does the memory remain but also the Love which came with the original event. Why? Our Father doesn’t want to be forgotten or want you to forget. Romans. 8:38-39  “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Forgotten equals separation. Didn’t He say, “I will never leave you nor forsake you?” (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8  Joshua 1:5, Hebrews 13:5)

This is why we cannot be separated because we are marked by His Love! Non-erase able marks. 1 Corinthians 13:8 “Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.”

"Christian love has God as its primary object, and expresses itself first of all in implicit obedience to His commandments.” Noah Webster. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15

More from Noah Webster; "Christian love, whether exercised toward the brethren, or toward men generally, is not an impulse from the feelings, it does not always run with the natural inclinations, nor does it spend itself only upon those for whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all, and works no ill towards any.”

Romans 15:2 “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification” (a building up)

Romans 13:8-10 “8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,”  “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

“Love seeks opportunity to do good to all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of faith. "Love had its perfect expression among men in the Lord Jesus Christ” -Noah Webster

So Love is not being Minnesota “nice” to one another. “Nice” is not a fruit of the Spirit, nor a virtue promoted in the Bible. Doing good is. This is a broad spectrum of brotherly love which could be anything from helping someone mow their lawn to feeding them, to giving financially. Yes, financially. We used to give people a “holy handshake” with a $20 bill in it! Seems to be a lost art. Seeking to do good to all men could be started with the idea, “I wonder how I can bless someone today?” Only limited by the mind of God. If you want to rock some un - believers world, give them something unexpected, and say, “have a good day”.

I still remember living back in California. I wasn’t living as a Christian, but had a friend who was building a hot rod, a 40’ Ford coupe for a rich, Christian man down the street. One day he called me and said he needed help pushing the car up the driveway and into the rich man’s garage.  I said, “Sure I’ll be right up.” So we pushed really hard and after we got it put away, this rich guy came up to me and handed me a $100 bill. I was shocked! That was a lot of money in 1983. Not only did he give me money, he quoted to me a bible verse, Proverbs 16:9 -”The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

It rocked my world, after all Christians, especially rich ones, didn’t part with their money just to give! Then to quote me a scripture, they certainly did not! I had a lot to learn, but that scripture seed sown and his generosity stuck with me, because it was God’s love behind the rich man’s actions. A love event!
